General Lay-Z-Spa FAQs

How do I deflate my Lay-Z-Spa?

In order to deflate your spa, drain the spa of any water then fully unscrew the inflation valve and completely remove. This will cause the spa to start to deflate. Once the spa has deflated, you can carefully fold the spa, to remove the final bits of air.

Does the pump unit filter the water?

The Lay-Z-Spa pump unit filters the water via a replaceable filter. When the heater is turned on the filter will also be active, but you can activate the filter without the heater.

Why is the temperature dropping when I am using the bubbles?

The air from the Lay-Z-Spa Massage system bubbles will cool the water down.

With the new 2017 models of the spa, you can now use the heater at the same time as the bubbles!

Can I use the bubble function and heat function at the same time?

The heater and bubble function can only be used on the new 2017 & 2018 models.

How do I inflate the inflatable lid?

The inflatable lid can be inflated using the spa pump and the inflation hose.  Attach the inflation hose to the ‘C’ connection on the pump, insert into the inflation valve and press the bubble function on the pump unit.

How do I know when the spa is properly inflated?

On the Monaco, Palm Springs Siena, Hawaii AirJet and the HydroJet models come with a pressure gauge, these should be inflated to between 7-10psi.

The Vegas Miami, Paris, and other models should be inflated until touch soft.

What happens if my Lay-Z-Spa suffers a puncture?

To help locate punctures we recommend using washing up liquid diluted in water, by wetting the spa liner surface escaping air should produce some visible bubbles.

Repair patches can be purchased from www.bestwayaftersales.co.uk

Ensure that the surface to be repaired is cleaned and completely dry before applying the repair patch. Please wait at least 30 minutes from applying the patch before re-inflating to allow the adhesive to dry.

How often should I change the water?

This will depend on how well the water is maintained using chemicals and how often the spa is used. If you are happy that the water is clean and safe it is fine to continue to use the water, in the event that you are unsure, it is safest to change the water.

How often should I change the filters?

Filters should be cleaned after every use, using water to remove any small particles of debris. If the filters are used for too long they will change colour and deteriorate, meaning the health of the water is not being maintained effectively. Dirty filters can also cause E02 errors to appear on the pump. If you are unable to clean the filters these should be replaced.

Can I leave the spa on all the time?

The spa can be left on, if the heater function is left on, the pump unit will maintain the temperature of the water for you. If you want to use the spa regularly this is the most cost effective way of maintaining the water temperature. Please note that if the pump unit is not touched for a period of 72 hours the heater will switch off.

Please note that the spa is not designed to be used in temperatures below 4°C.

Why does the spa switch off after 72 hours?

This is a safety function. In order to reactivate the spa simply unlock the control panel by holding the lock/unlock key and then pressing the heater function.

How long does the spa take to fill?

This will depend on the spa you have, however this can take between 2-4 hours.

How much does the spa cost to run?

The running costs will vary depending upon your electric tariff, the amount of usage and how well insulated the spa is from the cold.

We recommend that the spa be placed on a surface that provides thermal insulation, such as the Bestway Floor Protector.

Do I need to use chemicals?

Yes it is very important to maintain the health of your water by using chemicals, for more details please visit our chemical page.

How do I drain my spa?

  1. Remove the filter housing from inside the spa.
  2. Place the two stop caps over the debris screens on the pipes inside the spa.
  3. Detach the pump unit.
  4. Attach the hose adapter to the lower water pipe on the outside of spa and attach your hose to this, with the other end in a drain off area.
  5. Remove the lower stop cap inside the spa, to allow the water to flow out.

Once the water level is below the bottom pipe level you can open the drain valve in the base of the liner to allow the last of the water out.

Can you use the spa in the winter?

The spa should not be setup or left out in temperatures lower than 4˚C (40˚F).
If the spa contains water that freezes this can cause damage to the internals of the pump and liner. Freezing temperatures can also cause the material of the liner and leatheroid covers to deteriorate.

How do I store my Lay-Z-Spa in the winter?

Simply drain, deflate, clean thoroughly with a mild non-abrasive cleaner, rinse thoroughly, dry and all should go back into the box for storage

Please store the Lay-Z-Spa in a dry, moisture free environment that has an ambient temperature of well above 4°C.

The spa is heating higher than the set temperature

The spa pump will heat the water to a couple of degrees higher than the set temperature, it will then stop the heating function until it has dropped to a few degrees below the set temperature when the heater will restart.

How can I disable the 72 hour ‘End’ function?

This is a safety function and cannot be switched off. In order to reactivate the spa simply unlock the control panel by holding the lock/unlock key and then pressing the heater function.

Why does the flap of material inflate on the inside of the spa?

This part of the spa is the massage seam where the bubbles come from. If you have a look you will be able to see the holes on this part where the air is pushed out from the pump to create the bubbles.

I can’t get the cushion to stay in the bottom of the spa!

The spas do not come with a separate inflatable cushion, as they have a cushioned base. The circular inflatable part supplied is a lid to help insulate the spa and should be placed inside the top cover.

Can I leave the pump out in rain?

Although the spa pumps are waterproof, if you are expecting very heavy rain we would recommend the pump unit is detached from the spa (use the stopper caps, to allow you to do this without losing the water) and bring inside.

How long does it take to heat?

The time taken to heat the spa will vary between the different spas and will be effected by the ambient air temperature. The pump units heat the water by approx. 1ºC – 1.5ºC an hour. To heat the water from cold can take 24-48 hours.
